Fit Myth: Diets

This Weeks Topic: Keto? IIFYM? Low carb? Paleo? Do you really need to diet in order to reach your fitness goals?

Let’s discuss

Let’s be honest, if traditional diets were as successful and life changing as they claim to be, there wouldn’t be a new trendy diet rolling out every other week, and we all wouldn’t have a friend about to start their 27th one

I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with watching what you eat, I encourage being mindful about what we choose to put in our bodies. I’m also not trying to say diets have NEVER worked for a single person, I know they have. But if a cars airbags only had a 2% success rate, darn sure we’d stop using them real quick

Let’s be done with the the deprivation that leads to cheat days that turn into cheat weekends that suddenly end up with the I’ll start first thing Monday’s ...rinse and repeat

Instead of a the endless cycle of being on and off the diet “wagon” here are 4 science based guileless to follow to leave the wagon behind for good

  1. Eat in a sustainable calorie deficit

  2. Increase your daily calorie expenditure, walk, bike, skip, dance, play. Move your body a little bit, all the time, ideally in ways you enjoy and can easily do.

  3. Sleep well, stay hydrated and do your best to manage your stress

  4. Lift some heavy things. Honestly this one is optional....if you’re goal is weight loss, being in a calorie deficit will accomplish that all on its own. However, if you’re goal is to build muscle (tone) and reshape your body I highly suggest getting on a strength training program. (Not sure where to start with that, email your girl, we’ll chat)

Weight loss or body recomposition isn’t always easy, I’m not trying to apply that there isn’t work involved, especially when first devolving new habits. There’s just a big difference between complicated and difficult; work hard, but keep the system simple, cool? Cool.
